The New Albertan

Calgary

"We are creatures of habits. I’ll bet you that when you go to a public bathroom, you almost always take the same stall. Second from the left? Good enough for me! It’s not good for us to sit in our habits, always going to the same restaurants and always sitting at the same spot. We need to expand our horizons to grow, to try something new now and then." - A paraphrasing of a French woman I know.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve lived in a small quiet village or like me, come from a multicultural city with a vibrant ever-evolving nightlife and daytime activities.
The ghost town that is downtown Calgary after 5 pm and on the weekend (when people usually go out)
is too quiet and doesn’t scream fun.
You may have been underwhelmed when locals answered your question about what to do for fun in Calgary with a “Go to the Mountains!”, which are at least an hour away and not in Calgary.
Are we doomed?
Not exactly. The hardest part is finding the people who go to these places even locals have overlooked. I haven’t been this person for years, hoping someone would lead me where the fun’s at instead of exploring, which quite frankly, has been unlike my usual self. And thus, I will don my fedora hat once more and seek those places.
I will outrun giant boulders, shake down evildoers seeking my heart!
And whatever I find, will belong in my What to do in Calgary museum.
